Since it began practicing a few weeks ago, the University of Oregon baseball team has raced to rebuild its program in time for the start of its first season in 28 years.

On a typical day, the Ducks' only audience during those practices was a small crowd of construction workers who themselves were hurriedly working on a brand-new, $18 million ballpark.

Both projects come together today as Oregon's return to baseball reaches another milestone.

And while neither is a polished product - expect to see a few rough spots in the stands and on the field - many today will celebrate college baseball's return to Eugene.

With a scheduled 2 p.m. first pitch against defending national champion Fresno State, the Ducks will play their first home game since May 13, 1981, while christening PK Park in front of an expected capacity crowd of 2,735.
