Oregon's unemployment rate didn't hit double digits in January, but at 9.9 percent it was close. And state

economists estimate that the rate probably will float between 10 percent and 12 percent through the end of 2012, employment department economist Art Ayre said Thursday.

The highest rate recorded in Oregon, since the current data series began in 1976, was 12.1 percent in November 1982, he said.

Tim Duy, an economist and author of the University of Oregon Index of Economic Indicators, said he's hoping Oregon's monthly jobless rate doesn't climb any higher than 13 percent and...
