"I don't usually do big places," said Art Holland, who on Thursday evening found himself in the spacious National Guard armory on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., protected from the cold and surrounded by 85 cots.

Holland, whom acquaintances know as "Papa Art," said he works half the year as a concessionaire at county and state fairs and lives on the streets for the other half. While he believes in earning his own way, sometimes it's too tough to fight off such cold weather on your own, he said.
