Former Mississippi State University varsity cheerleader Ben Allen has moved into the position of president at the Downtown Jackson Partners, and he isn't afraid of taking the bull by the horns. After serving as a Jackson city councilman, Allen has dived into the opportunities he has to help Jackson build toward a promising future. He seems to be a perfect candidate to help get a handle on what's needed in the Capital City. The Mississippi Business Journal interviewed Allen on recent and upcoming developments, struggles he faces as president of the Downtown Jackson Partners and his views on Jackson, its leaders and future.

Q--The King Edward is the biggest landmark in downtown that is under renovation. How is that project coming along? Are there any other downtown projects that are making headway?

A--The King Edward Hotel is coming along quite well; it will be finished and running by September 2009. It will feature a 186-room Hilton Garden Inn along with 56 apartments, and a small amount of office space. It will be first class in every way. Its sister project, the Standard Life Building, will contain around 150 apartments along...
