Good alignment starts with a well-placed pelvis. Most dancers, however, find themselves at one end of the tilt-tuck spectrum, tilting the top of the pelvis forward and swaying in the lower back, or tucking the tailbone to flatten the lumbar curve. Both tendencies are natural but can limit your range of motion and lead to injury, like spondylolysis (a stress fracture in the lower spine) or even a herniated disc. For free yet stable movement, find your neutral placement in between. It's a complex balancing act that's different for every dancer, but these tips can help:
