Hurricane rebuilding projects progress on Coast: much of the multi-billion dollar stimulus plan remains to be spent.

Across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Hurricane Katrina rebuilding projects continue. Most projects are in the public sector as the economic downturn takes a toll on private building projects.

Brian Sanderson, president of the Gulf Coast Business Council, believes a sense of reserved optimism still remains among area businesses as time marches toward the four-year anniversary of the monstrous storm.

"Our recent Confidence Survey indicates only a marginal decrease of less then five percent in the economic confidence of business owners here as compared to the third quarter of 2008," he said. "This is in stark contrast to the record decrease seen in a national survey, which posted a 20 percent decrease in December."

Business owners on the Gulf Coast, Sanderson went on to say, indicate a healthy attitude that their revenues and general economic conditions will improve over the next six months.
