After a tumultuous week, the stock market closed Feb. 11 in basically the same position it had been a week before--down dramatically for the year.

Major indexes bounced up and down over the week. The Dow Jones industrial average spiked 217 points Feb. 6, but crashed 382 points Feb. 10 to wipe out any gains.

The Feb. 11 news that the U.S. House and Senate had reached a compromise on an economic stimulus bill received a lukewarm greeting from investors, with the Dow spiking only 50 points.

For the year, through Feb. 11, the industrial average is down 9.5 percent, the S&P 500 is off 7.7 percent, and the NASDAQ composite is down 3 percent.
