Emma Bridgewater and husband Matthew Rice's generous Georgian house is filled with the warmth of the Aga, the sound of the nine peacocks calling from the kitchen garden at the back, the laughter of their four children - Lizzie, 17, Kitty, 15, Margaret, nine, and Michael, six - and the chatter of friends. The converted barn to one side houses a light and airy work studio, the Bridgewater pottery headquarters, and surrounding fields contain Matthew's sheep, chickens and ducks.

It is a dreamy, enviable existence for Emma and her family, but their home is also an endless source of inspiration for the duo's ever-expanding designs for Bridgewater - the pottery company that Emma started from her kitchen back in 1985. It has since become an international brand, with four UK stores, a mail-order catalogue and website.
