Most forecasters at USD panel pessimistic about 2009.

Except for a lone optimist, experts assembled to opine about San Diego's economic prospects this year were decidedly glum.

The consensus among the six speakers at the 2009 County of San Diego Economic Roundtable was to expect more of the same, and hope that a promised federal stimulus package gets approved quickly and filters down to the local level.

"The best hope is for 12 months of the same," said Ryan Ratcliff, an economics professor at the University of San Diego, which hosted the annual event. "I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. We're in for more than 12 months of a very bad economy."
