CALIFORNIA

Timothy J. Gallagher has been named president and publisher of the Ventura County Star. He has served as editor and vice president since 1995. Joe R. Howry has been promoted to editor and vice president. He has been the Star's managing editor since 1993.

Julie Moreno has been appointed vice president, Pacific Region, of the Community Newspapers Division of Freedom Communications, Inc. Moreno most recently served as publisher of The Sun in Yuma, Ariz.,and also served as vice president of Freedom Newspapers of Southwestern Arizona, Inc.

Bob Balzer has been appointed publisher and chief executive officer of The Sun of San Bernardino and the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin of Ontario. Balzer most recently served as publisher of the Bulletin. Steve Lambert becomes editor of both newspapers. Lambert has been editor of the Sun since 2002.

Jay Lenkersdorfer has been named publisher of The Press-Tribune in Roseville. He oversees the Placer Herald and Lincoln News-Messenger, in Placer County.

John Gryka has been named managing editor at The Press-Enterprise in Riverside. He has been deputy managing editor for three years. Nels Jensen has been named deputy managing editor.
