Airports plan upgrades to ease crowds.

A slew of recent construction plans from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey--which oversees metropolitan New York's three major airports--are expected to re duce airport congestion and weather-related delays, as well as make flying safer and easier for those traveling to and from Newark Liberty, New York LaGuardia and New York JFK airports.

The Port Authority noted that it completed a record $1.07 billion in construction projects in 2003, an increase of $70 million compared with 2002, including the restoration of service at the World Trade Center and Exchange Place PATH stations and the debut of New York JFK AirTrain.

"2003 was a tremendous year for the Port Authority's construction program, and we'll build on our success with continued investment," said Joseph Seymour, PANYNJ's executive director. "In addition to the year's completed construction, we also awarded $465 million for new construction projects."
