Two majors curb standard mtg. air discounts.

Two major airlines at least since last spring have restricted the categories of airfares to which standard meeting and group travel discounts may be applied. US Airways and, reportedly, Delta Air Lines have exempted their lowest-fare categories from the standard 5 percent and 10 percent discounts offered to any group.

A US Airways spokesperson confirmed the carrier this spring stopped offering standard meeting discounts on domestic fares of less than $200 due to changes in the airline's fare structure, including the introduction of lower-cost one-way fares from its Philadelphia hub that require neither a Saturday night stay nor a roundtrip purchase (BTN. May 10). The official said application of meeting discounts to Caribbean and transatlantic routes remained unchanged.
