Article Excerpt Pfizer Inc. last fall brought to the market its considerable $230 million global air spend, asking dozens of carriers to be greedy in their bidding. After a supplier conferences, three rounds of bidding and all types of analysis, the pharmaceutical giant on May 1 began implementing its new global airline program, which it expects will generate an overall reduction in air travel costs.
The bidders conference provided Pfizer a forum for clearly laying out expectations, specific timetables within the six-month plan, processes for proposal submission and the make-up of the Pfizer team. "Just in setting the stage, doing the proper window dressing, creating the feel for consistency in message and doing all that pre-work, the bidders conference probably saved us several months," Said Pfizer director of global travel Phil Dunphy. The end result, he added, are new global airline deals expected to generate incremental savings of 5 percent to 7 percent this year.
