Many in the corporate travel world last year searched long and hard for signs of hope that we were settling into a new semblance of normalcy to relatively little avail. In fact, the repercussions of the horrific events of the previous fall, a souring economy and revelations of corporate greed and mismanagement, followed by the chilling effects of military action in Afghanistan and the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, made life for the business travel buyer more surreal than normal.

For many in the industry, life last year had more to do with the incongruous imagery and unnatural combinations of dreams than any previous waking moments. Bombarded by so much bad news, with little prospect for anything but more of the same, many in the industry...
