Doing their level best: for steelmakers and steel processors around the world, new leveling capabilities are improving the quality of sheet and plate.

Leveling is a process carried out by rolling or stretching sheet or plate products to correct any shape deficiencies, before final processing. In response to demands from plate and sheet buyers for materials that are more level, steelmakers and steel processors are updating their leveling capabilities. And, steemaking engineers are providing them with the technology.

One notable example is Duferco Clabecq in Belgium. This global steel processor contracted Danieli to supply two complete leveling lines for ultra high-strength steel plates. They will be installed in a new heat-treating facility that Durferco plans to start up at the beginning of 2010.

According to Danieli (www.danieli.com), the new lines will be delivered as complete packages, including machinery for transporting plate at the entry and delivery sides, auxiliary devices, and electrical and automation equipment. Danieli also will be responsible for installing and commissioning the machines.
