Highland Brewing Co. was the first legal brewery in western North Carolina when it was launched in 1984. Owner and CEO Oscar Wong made the decision to leave behind a 30-year career in engineering and thanks to his devotion to beer, Highland Brewing now produces more than 14,000 barrels of beer annually. Wong anticipates brewing 16,000 barrels this year.
The company's beers are sold in seven states--North Carolina (75 percent of sales), South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and as of this year, Virginia and Alabama. Going forward, Wong plans to focus...
