Ad Pages Sprout for Pharmaceutical, Food Processing Titles

While it doesn't qualify as a turnaround per se, May ad-page counts from IMA/The Media Audit did render some gainers over the same month in 2008. We will be reviewing several select categories from the May results this week and in subsequent weeks, but here we pay closer attention to titles with the highest growth in raw page counts as well as the top percentile gainers.

Some categories continue to be resilient in these recessionary times. The pharmaceutical vertical has had a year-to-date drop of only 15.73%, for instance, which is well ahead of most segments that are still seeing between 25% and 30% declines from last year. Among the top 10 gainers for May in b2b, Advanstar's Pharmaceutical Technology added 54.59 pages over its May 2008 issue, representing a 74.90% increase. Likewise, Ascend Media's Pharmacy Times gained 12.67 pages over same issue a year ago, but that title is up 11.20% for the year in ad pages.
