The banking and finance industries have been at the forefront of news about the recent credit and loan crises, and obviously the extra fodder hasn't yielded measurable benefits for their corresponding b2b media categories (see boxscores below). Financial books plummeted 32.22% in ad revenue in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 2008, and banking pubs fared marginally better (- 26.23%). Ad pages are also categorically down in both sectors, with not a single publication gaining pages in Q1 or March.

With the uncertainty surrounding the government's plans to revive the battered financial service sector and the new challenges presented by the growth of digital, the sheer majority of business publications are seeing double-digit percentage losses in the revenue column.
