Energy star status: over the past three years, ArcelorMittal USA has posted a 4.1% improvement in energy intensity, equivalent to $131 million of annualized savings--which has earned it Energy Star Partner of the Year recognition from the EPA and DOE.

For the second year in a row, ArcelorMittal USA was named a 2009 Energy Star Partner of the Year for Energy Management by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE.) Each year the federal agencies honor outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency.

Over the past three years, the energy management program at ArcelorMittal has achieved a 4.1% improvement in energy intensity, equivalent to $131 million of annualized savings.

During 2008, ArcelorMittal achieved energy savings by reducing use of natural gas, fuel oil, and purchased electricity. The reductions are attributed to capital improvements made at different facilities, such as the installment of a top-gas recovery turbine in 2006 and a switch to more energy-efficient lighting in 2008.
