Chaos theory asserts that when a system or species is under tremendous pressure and is about to collapse, some unexpected adaptation or evolutionary change emerges just before extinction. In the absence of this unanticipated change, the system falls into entropy--or simply caves in on itself. In chaos theory, "necessity is the mother of invention."
Our health care system--or "sick care system" as some call it--is arguably on the verge of collapse. There are those who are in denial and some who are anesthetized by their sense-of-entitlement mentality, but from whatever perspective you scrutinize the delivery of health care, it's difficult to ignore the possibility that it's in chaos mode.
Typically, when you read about health care challenges, it's only from one perspective--the short-term. In reality, the problems facing our health care system are much more pervasive and far-reaching than most of us realize. To find a solution and transform our health care system, we must first understand what we are facing.
