Article Excerpt Executives in charge of business travel decisions are tightening control through internal policies, but few are cutting back on the amount of travel within their companies. In fact, the volume of travel for companies has caught back up with or, in most cases, exceeded pre-Sept. 11 levels, survey respondents told Business Travel News.
Travel buyers and executives largely are on the same page in their travel outlook for 2007, although buyers are a bit more bullish in their travel expectations than the top decision makers. That difference of opinion, however, was mostly within about 8 percentage points.
Companies expecting more travel cite an overall improved economy and internal plans for business growth as factors in the increase. While 32 percent of executives expect more travel in 2007, according to Business Travel News' "View From The Top" survey, more than half expect the amount to remain the same.
"We're trying to focus more of our efforts on winning federal business, and by the very nature of that, some would be international and some would be to areas of the country where we may not have a physical presence today," according to Terry Campbell, chief financial officer of Kansas City, Mo.-based architectural, engineering and construction firm HNTB Corp.
