Global expense control needs driving system adoption.

Companies with European operations increasingly are turning to electronic expense solution providers, rather than homegrown systems for expense reporting, as companies seek better oversight of more globally consolidated travel expenses.

The number of European expense reports filed online has grown from 44 percent in 2004 to 64 percent in 2006, according to survey respondents. The growth has been the most dramatic in the small and midsize markets, which have grown from a little more than one-third using online expense reports to well more than half. Large businesses have grown from 62 percent to nearly three-quarters.

About 18 percent of respondents also said they were either in the process of buying an expense reporting system or that they would be doing so within the next few years. Expense reporting suppliers agreed that Europe is a budding market for them.
