Dec. 8--Eddie Martinez said he and his mother have lost close to $40,000. Charles Brown put his loss at more than $60,000. For Oscar Ruiz, it was $18,000.
A growing list of customers of U.S. Bank in Highwood, most of them Mexican immigrants who speak little English, say their savings and other accounts are missing or have been depleted without their permission.
The bank is investigating an employee for violating policies, U.S. Bank spokesman Steve Dale said Wednesday, declining to give details, including whether the employee still works for the bank. Many of the customers have said they worked with the same person at the bank.
Highwood Police Chief Dave Wentz said Wednesday his department is investigating U.S. Bank customers' concerns.
The FBI is reviewing the case but has not opened an investigation, spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said.
