As I look back over the past twenty years I have noticed a pattern in my life. The times of meaningful growth occurred when I hung in there during difficult situations. I remember my first exam in graduate school. My accounting professor handed out the annual report for Georgia Pacific and asked us to restate their earnings based on the footnoted one-time events. After scribbling debits and credits for an hour and a half I handed in my paper and drove to my fiances house, dejected. I was sure I had flunked the exam, and that the faculty would politely but firmly ask me to pursue another course of study.
