The other day, as I was traveling with my family in Connecticut, my wife and I talked about the topics on people's minds these days. We could not recall a time in recent history when there was so much anxiety about both economic and personal security. Many, many of our friends and colleagues are wondering about what they will do if their jobs are eliminated. Others are facing the stark reality of job loss during an economic downturn, when opportunities are hard to find.

We discussed how grateful we were that in this instance we were not directly impacted by the layoffs. We were, however, deeply concerned about how we could help others who are facing some pretty tough times.
