Anyone looking for some of the best views of Sydney, Australia's legendary Opera House and famed Harbour Bridge can find them at the Altitude restaurant on the top floor of the new Shangri-La Sydney Hotel, located in the historic Rocks section of the city. Thanks to Brennan Beer Gorman Monk's thoughtful and elegant design for the 1,584-sq.-ft. space--which involved elevating a portion of the dining level, introducing 16.5-ft.-high floor-to-ceiling windows, and adding mirrors along the length of the restaurant--even diners facing away from the windows can enjoy the spectacular harbor scene.

Part of a $22.6-million overall renovation of the former ANA Harbor Grand Hotel, which GIC, a Singapore-based developer, purchased in 2002 and later enlisted Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts to operate, the newly refurbished restaurant is just one aspect of a total interior redesign that has transformed what was a fading, 20th-century hotel into a 21st-century, five-star luxury retreat.
