When you have something with history in Los Angeles, you'd better hold onto it, since the local decree is more about coveting what's new and trendy rather than what's old and dated. Fortunately, the board members overseeing the interior renovation of the John Thomas Dye School felt differently, as did Margaret Griffin and John Enright, the principals and co-founders of Griffin Enright Architects, also based in Los Angeles. The mandate called for a technology update and interior remodel of 18 classrooms that are distributed between six wood frame buildings, but zoning requirements prevented any work on the exterior of the structures, including windows and doors.
