Sep. 2--The Port of New Orleans bills itself as America's gateway to the global market, but Hurricane Katrina slammed that gateway shut, and Texas ports are getting many of the diverted shipments.

The chaos along the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River has disrupted the flow of everything from coffee and bananas to steel and rubber. In Texas, the Port of Houston is getting the largest share of the redirected cargo.
