Sep. 1--Dorothy Mann covers most of her daily living expenses with Social Security.

The retired secretary supplements the government checks by working part-time, earning a bit more than minimum wage.

But lately, high gas prices have her struggling to make ends meet.

"It's pretty hard, and it's going to get harder if gas keeps going up," said Mann, who's in her 60s.

High gas prices are a headache for most Americans, but for low-income households or seniors on fixed incomes like Mann they can be especially painful.
