As with everything else in life, the early reports on first-quarter mergers and acquisitions activity have both good news and bad. The good news, per research from media/information industry dealmaker The Jordan, Edmiston Group, is that all Q1 deals across 11 different types of media rose 28.4% in number (140 Q1 2005 transactions versus 109 for the same period in 2004), with an eye-opening 132.4% jump in deal value. January-March action this year was valued at nearly $9.7B, compared with $4.2B for the same months last year.

That's the good news, which no doubt is music to the ears...
