Nov. 4--Cold Stone Creamery will open its fifth Colorado Springs ice cream parlor this month in territory long controlled by Springs ice cream legends Michelle's and Josh & John's.

In addition to facing stiff competition, Cold Stone has the challenge of opening an ice cream store when temperatures have fallen below freezing.

"I'm not at all worried about opening in November," said Gene Bergmeier, owner of the Cold Stone at 218 N. Tejon St. He expects the downtown store to open next week.

"Granted, business in November is nothing like it is in July," he said, "but we just focus our marketing efforts according to the season."...
