Midmarket companies continued to gain attention in the past year as travel suppliers increasingly sought to do business with the approximately 7,000 companies that manage significant aggregate, although individually somewhat modest, travel spending levels.

Midmarket companies as a group last year showed their stability during a time when most of the several hundred larger domestic spenders continued to make severe cutbacks. While growth companies pushed up the overall average during this generally tough year, most midmarket companies maintained relatively flat spending and many focused even more on reducing costs through budget cuts, online booking and expense tool adoption and the implementation of purchasing practices.
