The two-pronged assault of war and disease have combined to severely hurt the short-term outlook for international corporate meetings, with U.S. corporations keeping most events at domestic sites.

Though any negative, impact in terms of hesitance and cancellations from the recent war in Iraq likely already has happened, the same cannot be said of the impact of the recent outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome in Asia. The disease has decimated travel to China and Hong Kong, and some corporations have modified travel policies to forbid travel for the immediate future.
