No doubt the majors are in trouble, but will they disintegrate as the traditional option for managed reimbursed corporate travel? There are reasons that might lead to that conclusion:

* Low-cost carriers thrive while the majors bleed cash daily, exacerbated by their pattern of self-destructive pricing

* Majors may not escape their tether to organized labor

* Majors cannot resolve their battle against the GDSs, so managed travel continues to face erosion from Web sites that lure travelers with lower fares than the corporate deals, a vicious downward cycle ending with loss of corporate control and less share for majors
