| Course Syllabus: |
| Lesson 1 Syllabus |
We'll cover a lot of ground in our first lesson, and you'll be feeling more familiar with Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 before you know it. Today, we'll go over some basics to give you a solid background for the rest of the course. We'll download a few images so you can see how to view them in various sizes, as well as adjust them for color and orientation changes. |
| Lesson 2 Syllabus |
In today's lesson, we'll explore a number of topics relating to the size and resolution of an image. Although this subject matter is somewhat technical, it's essential if you want to share and print images easily. We'll discuss cropping and sizing images, when to use a 3:2 ratio for printing, and how to add borders to your printed images. You'll also learn how to size an image for use on the Web and as an e-mail attachment. |
| Lesson 2 Objective |
Recognize screen elements, identify main tools, import and save images. |
| Lesson 3 Syllabus |
Color! It's a major part of imaging, so in this lesson we'll look at many ways to adjust and correct the color in your images. You'll learn how to make the most of the Gradient Tool and the Color Picker, and you'll have a chance to try some interesting color combinations and background adjustments. We'll also practice combining two documents into one, and we'll explore Photoshop Elements 3.0 layering techniques. |
| Lesson 3 Objective |
Understand image size, print size, and file size. |
| Lesson 4 Syllabus |
Light is the magic that makes the photographic process work. So in this lesson, we'll look at light and how to manage it. Once you bring your images to the computer—either via a digital camera or by scanning printed images—you still have the option to manage the light. Photoshop Elements 3.0 gives you some very basic tools for working with light and one in particular that's a little more sophisticated. When you finish this lesson, you'll know when to use the simple tools, like Brightness/Contrast and Shadows/Highlights, and when to use the more sophisticated Levels to adjust Histograms. |
| Lesson 4 Objective |
Find out how to choose, use, and adjust color. |
| Lesson 5 Syllabus |
The selection tools that Photoshop Elements offers are quite varied and you can spend a lot of time fine-tuning your skills. It's important for photographers to know not just how to select an area of an image, but why and what to do with that selection. In today's lesson, you'll begin to develop your selection skills and see the power that comes with breaking an image into sections for correction and adjustment. You'll get a chance to work with the Lasso Tool and the Move Tool to practice your technique. Then you'll learn how to clone and remove flaws without any selection tools at all. |
| Lesson 5 Objective |
Learn to see and adjust light with various Photoshop Elements options. |
| Lesson 6 Syllabus |
Selecting portions of an image is a big part of Photoshop Elements, and even though it can be tedious to get it just right, it's important that you practice it often and become comfortable with the process. We'll use this lesson to add to your skill and incorporate more sophisticated techniques that will help you move quickly and confidently through the editing process. We'll work with the Magic Wand and Selection Brush, as well as a few tools that are more advanced. To finish up, you'll learn how to create a silhouette. |
| Lesson 6 Objective |
Understand cloning and basic selection tools, including the Marquee tool and the Lasso tool. |
| Lesson 7 Syllabus |
Portraits are a wonderful canvas for some of the editing tools you'll find in Photoshop Elements. In today's lesson, we'll look at ways that you can subtly enhance and correct flaws in portraiture. Using tools that correct red eye, smooth wrinkles, and miraculously open closed eyes, you'll find that you can give your portraits a whole new look. We'll practice using features like the Sponge Tool, the Smudge Tool, and a few others that you might not realize are essential for touch-up work. |
| Lesson 7 Objective |
Understand advanced selection tools, including the Magic Wand tool and the Selection brush. |
| Lesson 8 Syllabus |
In this lesson, we'll use many of the tools and features we've seen before, but at a more advanced level. It may begin to seem like there's nothing you can't fix with Photoshop Elements! Today you'll see what the Liquify, Bloat, and Warp tools have to do with skilled editing, and you'll learn how to incorporate more of the layering techniques into your work. You'll also see how to create a sepia-toned image with just a few keystrokes. |
| Lesson 8 Objective |
Learn to use the right tools to improve portraits. |
| Lesson 9 Syllabus |
Today, you'll have a chance to put a number of techniques into practice, and you'll learn how to add text and borders to create professional-looking images. We'll also practice using the Paint Bucket and other tools that will allow you to draw and add color to your image. You'll find that Photoshop Elements has much more than photographic editing tools available—your artistic side will enjoy the options! |
| Lesson 9 Objective |
Use advanced techniques and combinations of tools and features to achieve the desired results. |
| Lesson 10 Syllabus |
Photoshop Elements makes several filters and framing styles available to you. You'll probably use one or two of them regularly in most standard photographic work, but you'll want to be familiar with all of them so you're ready when you need to put in a little extra effort to create a very professional document. We'll also discuss when and how to sharpen an image and when to go for a blur instead. |
| Lesson 10 Objective |
Use the Drawing tools to further enhance image creations. |
| Lesson 11 Syllabus |
As we near the end of the course, you'll see how to work with groups of images—sizing them, renaming them, using them to produce panoramic images and collages, and even closing them all quickly. These features of Photoshop Elements will help you to quickly produce all types of professional images and documents, greeting cards, and scrapbooking pages. You'll even use the new Cookie Cutter tool to create your own clip art. |
| Lesson 11 Objective |
