What makes an effective Web site? Page layout, navigation, aesthetics, color, typography, readability, graphics, multimedia, interactivity, and animation all play a part in creating a satisfying experience for your visitors. However, in order to create a durable Web site, you'll also need to how to structure your site so that you communicate your ideas clearly and in the most effective manner possible.
This course will help you become familiar with good user interface design techniques that will allow your visitors to navigate your site with ease. You'll also understand how users read on the Web and the characteristics of effective Web writing. You'll learn important graphic design principles and how to use a variety of tools to enhance your pages.
If you're already designing Web sites, this course will take your works to the next level. The importance of reshaping traditional design skills and applying them to Web pages and Web sites will be emphasized throughout the course. |
| Instructor Biography: |
| Patricia Franks has over 20 years of experience as a college educator, teaching courses in Web development, information management, communication, e-commerce, and desktop publishing. Patricia is a frequent presenter at workshops and conferences on the local, state, and national levels including conferences held by CIT, ARMA, WebCT, and AACE. She has created Web sites for several professional organizations and is completing her studies toward a Ph.D. in Organization and Management with a specialization in e-business. |

You will begin to understand the tension between form versus function when designing and creating web pages. You will learn how to determine the purposes and objectives of your website before you build it.
